Firewater represents on of the biggest threats to the environment. Every year tens of millions of Litres of firewater are spilt in to rivers, streams and creeks killing aquatic life and damaging livelihoods. The Buncefield incident in the UK alone is estimated to have generated 250 million Litres firewater costing some £800m in reformation costs.

Firewater is the runoff from fire fighting and contains chemicals such as PFOS which improves the wetting properties of the water and thus its ability to extinguish fires. However, PFOS in its own right is toxic. When the PFOS is mixed with the other chemicals generated and/or released during the progress of a fire the resulting cocktail becomes an even more toxic stew of liquids; suspended solid organic and inorganic particles, which by law have to be contained. Be warned, the responsibility of containment falls on the site owner/operator and not the Fire Service.
The steel version of the FlapstopperTM is the ideal firewater check valve as it is fast to operate; operable from batteries (operable when the power is cut by the fire switch) and will remain closed in the event of fire damage to its controls.
Firewater Check Valve How it Works
Using an Acoustic Coupling Device the FlapstopperTM firewater containment can be provided on a 24/7 basis without need for human intervention. Further, the operation of the system can be verified as part of the regular fire drill.
