Water Framework Directive

 (List I of Directive 80/68/EEC)

Establishes a legal framework for the provision sufficient quantities of good quality water across Europe. It requires EU member states to aim to achieve "good ecological and chemical status" in all water bodies (both groundwater and surface water) by 2015.
